Everything You Need to Know About Kitchen Design in Westchester

By Aiko Austin

The owners of Bilotta Kitchen & Home share tips on the latest and greatest in kitchen design and the importance of hiring a kitchen designer.

The story of Bilotta Kitchen & Design dates back to 1955, when Jim Bilotta Sr. founded a residential construction company followed by a custom millwork shop. By 1985, siblings Jim, Maria, and Regina Bilotta joined their father to open the company’s flagship showroom in Mamaroneck. Inspired by their Italian heritage, rich with decades of talented artisans, they were determined to build a company that promised to create the most beautiful kitchens and interior spaces in the world.

“Over the last 35 years, my siblings and I have worked together to carry on my father’s legacy,” says Regina. “Fulfilling the functional desires and needs of our clients has been easy. It’s with design and aesthetics that we are truly raising the bar and delivering something that exceeds our clients’ expectations and dreams.”

Bilotta Kitchen & Home now has showrooms in Mamaroneck, Mount Kisco, Greenwich, and Manhattan, all of which feature traditional and contemporary kitchen displays from the company’s own line, Bilotta Collection, as well as other high-end manufacturers. While Bilotta depends on its partner factory in rural Pennsylvania for handmade custom cabinetry expertise, the company also benefits from the factory’s cutting-edge technology, machinery, materials, and finishes.

“Our philosophy is to provide the highest-quality products and services while treating our customers like they are family,” says Jim. “We strive to create beautiful, functional, lasting, and inviting living spaces that enrich peoples’ lives.” Expanding on the topic, Maria says, “We believe in the team approach – combining the efforts of a builder, architect, interior designer, and more – all managed by a kitchen designer.”

Latest Trends in Kitchen Design

Homeowners looking to update their kitchens might be interested to note that the Bilottas have seen several key trends on the rise. According to Maria, two-toned kitchens, where there is a mix of painted and wood cabinetry, are very popular at the moment. “While colors come and go, the old favorite – white paint – never goes away. However, people will mix it with other natural finishes, such as a white-painted perimeter and a walnut island,” she says.

When it comes to cabinetry, Jim says, “For more contemporary cabinet doors, the use of metal is very popular, whether it’s polished nickel, blackened steel, copper, or bronze.” The metals have an indestructible finish and develop a wonderful patina with age. “We are seeing a demand for cabinet doors with metal frames and fabric sandwiched between two pieces of glass as the center panel,” notes Jim.
